Switching to udev from devfs

I am using Debian Sarge Linux. I recently came to know about the udev and devfs. I found out that by default Debian Kernel 2.6 uses devfs. For some hardware compatibility reason I would like to use udev instead of devfs.

How can I disable devfs and start using udev.

Thanks.

Try this:

$ su
# apt-get install udev
# reboot

Actually I did that. and after reboot just to make sure I did:

Code:
debian# ps aux | grep udevd
and it showed the process running. But I am confused because when I check my dmesg ouput I still get some lines saying:

Code:
devfs: 2004-01-31 Richard Gooch (rgooch@atnf.csiro.au)
devfs: boot_options: 0x0
whereas there is no trace of udev in dmesg output

So I was wondering if I still have devfs enabled?? Can there be a situation where both udev and devfs are enabled??

You'll probably want to enable bootlogd in /etc/default/bootlogd , then reboot and check out /var/log/boot .
