Switching from MEPIS to Sarge

Hey All,

Im Thinking of installing Debian Sarge over simplymepis 3.3, I was wondering if it is a wise choice?

Almost all the packages available for mepis are avail for debian. however i want to use the 2.6.10 or higher kernel (because SM ships with 2.6.10), and from a novice point of view "is it difficult?".

Any help would be appreciated for my novice brain .

Im currently using KDE 3.4 with SM and havnt had a prob , im also intrested in using Xorg rather then xfree86 because the one game i play alot on linux is quake 3 arena.

The installation should be easy, but:
  • The latest kernel available in Sarge is 2.6.8, although you can compile your own
  • XOrg is not available in Sarge

Probably you'll have to install Sarge and then upgrade several things to Sid:

unstable has XOrg,
testing and unstable has kernel 2.6.10

experemental has KDE 3.4

You may also go on SID-unstable only - with KDE 3.3
