I'm using debian sarge, with a 2.6.8 kernel. I'm a noob with a sound problem. I just started using gnome and I want to listen to my audio files using some gnome tools. I have xmms and it works pretty well, using alsa in either DE.
When I try to play a file with rythembox the error dialog box says:
Quote:
Device "/dev/dsp" does not exist.

When I try to listen to a file using gnome's "audio view" option from the file browser the error dialog says:
Quote:
The Audio view encountered an error and can't continue.

When I look at the "Multimedia Systems Selector", in the audio section, there's no options for alsa, only oss (plus I don't know what "sinks" and "sources" are). Alsa seems to work for kde and xmms, does it not work in gnome? Do I have to update something to get my audio to work?
