Stopped jobs
I think I finally got the 2nd Hard Drive mounted. You have to use "vfat" for a WIndows 32-bit partition. Why did everyone keep saying to use ext2 or ext3?
But now, after logging in as a user I can't logout. All I get is the message "There are stopped jobs." Whatever that means. If they are stopped then why can't I logout? That means they are no longer loaded and running. Right? I found that I can "kill" each job individually. But, how do I keep this from happening again? The "stopped" jobs were an "ls" and a "man" that I tried to get out of because I was finished. What is the correct command to "terminate" the job? I had used Ctrl+Z because it took me right back to the command line. |
Use "fg" to put it back to front and read http://acs.ucsd.edu/info/jobctrl.php for more usefull info

To get out of a man page, press "q".
You can usually kill a job with ctrl+c rather than stop it with ctrl+z Finally, if you try "logout" and it says "there are stopped jobs", typing "logout" again will automatically kill the stopped jobs and log you out. Hope that helps. |
Thanks
Thanks for the input.
I am trying to read the man and help files but, there always seem to be a little piece of information I can't find and should know. One day, I will stop being a nuisance. I Hope;~} |
