I managed to get splashy to show on shutdown but not on boot. Any ideas on why it doesn't show on boot?

Debian Sid Kernel Linux 2.6.17.8-slh-smp-1 i686
nVidia NV34 [GeForce FX 5500] X.Org 7.0.0
AMD Duron clocked at [ 1800.255 MHz ]

you can try update-initramfs -u -t -k `uname -r`

Tried that I get bash: update-initramfs: command not found
