Sound Problems in Debian

I am having some sound issues in Debian. I ran the alsaconf command, and it set everything up correctly. However, when I try to play music, it skips throughout playback. Watching videos in a browser works fine, but sound in audio players does not. How can I fix this?

You do surprise me.

AlsaPlayer 0.99.80
(C) 1999-2004 Andy Lo A Foe <andy@alsaplayer.org> and others.
Output plugin: ALSA output v1.9.0beta12
Loading reader plugin: File reader v1.1
Loading reader plugin: HTTP reader v1.3
Loading Input plugin: libsndfile plugin v0.1
Loading Input plugin: MikMod player v1.0
Loading Input plugin: CDDA player v1.2
Loading Input plugin: flac player v1.1.3/1.1.4/1.2
Loading Input plugin: WAV player v1.01
Loading Input plugin: MAD MPEG audio plugin v1.01
Loading Input plugin: Ogg Vorbis player v1.2
Interface plugin: GTK+-2.x interface
Might be an idea to do the same and post the output, don't know.

Thank you for the help. I reinstalled Debian after trying out Linux Mint 8. I did not encounter the stuttering sound this time
