sound problem...

Hi,
I have recently installed Debain-sarge on my Athelon PC. I am having Gnome desktop with alsa sound drivers. Everything going well except the sound. I tried a lot of ways but no use. Can anyone please help me solve the problme?

mahamkali; (4) items to check:1st hardware, 2nd kernel modules,3rd permission, 4th configuration. check step by step until all are eliminated except problem that is what u`ll have to correct and solve following eliminating working con nonworking steps. its a pain but necessary to solve
problems.
