Ok didn't say dvd use the hdparm command on the dvd drive likely hdc if you see no dma 1 then use
hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc of course changing if different to make the change survive a reboot edit the /etc/hdparm.conf as root to put this at the bottom of the file again changing if necessary.
