Question Simple New user Problems.

1. Debian allows me to connect only as root but not as user. As user modem fails to open. I did chmod 777 for kppp, still unable to connect as user. Please assist.

2. Downloaded xsok package and installed it by apt. It says command xsok not found. I checked, this binary exists in the /usr/games directory with good permissions.

3. Installed Damn Small Linux to the hard drive after checking that it works well from live cd. Now after HD install the mouse is not moving. The fisrt time I used this install from HD, the mouse was OK. I didn't change anything.

Please assist.

Thanks.

Vijay

Have you joined the right groups ? dialout, dip and tty are often useful.

Can you run it as root ? Check /etc/profile - you may have to add the path for that directory.

Well, an easy way around it would be to run the live CD again, and then copy the Xorg/XF86Config file it creates onto a floppy/usbdrive and then paste it to your hard drive (/etc/X11/Xorg.conf or /etc/X11/XF86Config-4). Alternatively, you could post your mouse make, model and type here, plus your existing config file, and we'll see if we can spot the problem.
Cheers,

mj

1. This problem was solved. I had added a : at the end of each group after my group name, this had to be removed.

2. checked /etc/profile as adviced. the path /usr/games exists
xsok is a game.
