Sid or Sarge

Sarge upgraded my kde to 3.2.2 (from 3.2.1) and now my Plastik style is gone and there are only ones that I don't like in my style list. I see Sid has the newer version of kdeartwork-style and has some other newer packages I like. i know they will be in Sarge eventually, but I like newer packages, but also stability.

Is Sid stable? The only way for me to install it is by changing testing to unstable, so I am not sure if stuff would brake if I upgraded that way. Is it worth it to upgrade from Sarge to Sid (mostly doing it for the styles because I can't stand these)?

I will be doing some programming and stuff, so I don't want to lose it all either. I don't think linux would stop booting though just because I am using Sid.

Thanks

I've been using sid for a few weeks now...have had no crashes or 'unstable' things happening, have kernel 2.6.7 and kde 3.2.2. Sid does'nt seem to be any more or less 'unstable' than any other distro i've ever used..so just apt-get upgrade dist.

Good to go

I have been running SID for over a year now and it's great. When gnome or KDE gets upgraded though it will be a bit messy. Maybe a week or so for you icons to not look exactly right but other than that it should be a nice stable system to use. I can remember when kde was upgrade from 3.1 to 3.2 that I lost my stlyles for the night. The next day I did apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade and everything worked again. That's the one thing that is so awesome about apt. It will handle the upgrade flawlessly and hold back the packages that can't or shouldn't be upgraded yet etc.

Is updating to sarge or sid actually changing something to debian itself or only to the programs. So if I take my own example I run a woody install but everything I install new is either from sid or sarge depending on the availibility of the package. If it changes more than the programs why would I want to upgrade cause my programs are testing or unstable anyway?

Sounds good.

Although, I was wondering, what do you guys think the chance of debian unstable crashing is compared to testing?

And can I upgrade safely (from testing to unstable) or do I need to format and then start with unstable?
