[SOLVED] [sid] adobe-flasplugin is reinstall-required but apt can't find archive for it

It's preventing anything besides apt-cache from working. Even --force-all isn't fixing it.

Why mess with downloading and trying to install from Adobe when there is a package in the debian repos.

and why are you mixing lenny/stable and sid/unstable in your sources list..

Farslayer: Target distro is sid, no Lenny packages are installed unless they don't exist at all in sid.

CraigEvil: It was before, I only downloaded it from adobe when the installed version was messed up.

Everyone else: Apt is really choking hard on this. It's not working at all, even for unrelated packages. Look at this:

Since the problem is with apt, I don't think I can fix it by compiling replacement software from source (in my experience, that only ever makes things worse.)

HAH! Fixed it!

I had a look at the errors, namely this line:

postinst called with argument `abort-upgrade'

This looked intriguing to me. So I ran the command

/var/lib/dpkg/info/adobe-flashplugin.postinst
~$

Just for the heck of it, I removed that file (backed it up in my home directory.) After I did that, I was able to use apt normally again, and flash was auto-magically reinstalled when I tested apt by installing abiword.

The adobe-flashplugin package comes from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
I have done stupid move and I have installed install_flash_player_10_linux.deb which was dedicated for Ubutu :-(

After it I can not remove it as well reinstall it. I can not do anything with apt. SO, I have some other problems with new kernel for example linux-image-2.6.29-2-686 :-(

Are you mixing releases? If your running stable you shouldn't be getting all of the depends errors. Heck even running sid I rarely see depends errors. Where did you get the kernel you are trying to install?

You might trying using dpkg to remove the broken adobe-flashplugin package.

My main problem now is how to handle adobe-flashplugin. I have more then 20 GB on root directory / . I would love to use dpkg but without success. Here my tries:

Do yu think it can be a problem? Before installing adobe-flashplugin. I have tried to install stable linux-image-2.6-686 package. But the affect was the same.

I have tried to leave only stable version in source.list but problem is the same.

Hurray, finally. Problem solved. Thanks craigevil for a tip.

After, reducing a list of sources in /etc/apt/source.list to stable relise, I had no problem in installing again install_flash_player_10_linux.deb

Ahhh, My happiness was too early. I have managed only to reinstall install_flash_player_10_linux.deb . But when I wanted to remove adobe-flashplugin. I had another problem.

But it is simple to fix it. I have edit file /var/lib/dpkg/info/adobe-flashplugin.prerm and removed all lines after set -e. This solved the problem.

adobe-flashplugin looks like an Ubuntu package from the dpkg --status output you posted..

which could be why it's causing so many problems trying to install it on a Debian system, and also why I couldn't find it anywhere in the Debain repositories.

Ubuntu != Debian

you really shouldn't mix packages between the two distros..
