since upgrading my system (debian testing sarge) i got short time hangs when starting programs under XFree. Gnome-core 49 and metacity are running. the kernel 2.6.5 is selfmade but rather conservative comp.(no optimizations).
klicking a programm sometimes (rare) causes a not starting of it for about 40 seconds. then it pops up and works all right. it dosn't use any cpucycles till it's up. all other running aplications are not affected by this.
anybody noticed something like this? i think it might be the kernel io-sheduler, but since im no kernel-guru im not sure.

I have noticed famd popping up all the time and causing the system to lag. I use gkrellm so can see the cpu going crazy and the only solution is to kill famd. (haven't been able to determine exactly what famd does). Doing top will normally tell you what processes are going on.
