Ok, tomorrow I will be booting up my new 64 bit computer and installing both windows and the amd64 port of debian. From what I've been reading I want to install the sid port from alioth. I've read some howtos on debian.org and alioth, threads here, and random net articles from google. I am still pretty new to debian so I thought I'd start a (hopefully) helpful thread (to help me also lol) collecting know-how about getting the system up and running. So the questions are:

where/which port do I want to get (alioth has a couple)
how to install (my understanding is that the netisnt is standard expect for the apt source... what sould they be)
how to set up the comp so 32 bit programs can be run also

This is everything I can think of atm, but please feel free to add anything else that's helpful too. Thanks all.

To run 32 bit apps there are to ways.
a) create chroot (i dunno how that works... )
b) install the linux32 package. then you should install manually any 32bit lib you need. there is howto around of how to get Openoffice (which havn't been ported to amd64 yet) working this way.
