I plan to move my /home and /var/www directories over to two raid mirrors I have, and the mirrors are set up perfectly, except for the fact that I can't seem to figure out how to set up raid autodetect
I'm using kernel 2.6.8

^^ That link defines 3 steps at the beginning of section 7.2, and it'd be great if someone could take me into greater detail on step 1, and also checking step 2 and making changes if necessary. I think step 2 is fine, but step 1 is where i'm having issues, and they go into no detail on that page.
for starters, can someone help me out with:
1) do the kernel images from the apt repositories have/support autodetection?
2) if not, what do i need to do to obtain it? maybe just add a module(s)?
3) if the kernels already support autodetection, then what else do i need to do to get these raid arrays detected on boot?
add any other supplemental/additional information you think would be helpful or overall good to know.
I've been messing with this and googling for a while, but I can't find critical details that should probably come from someone who has set this up before
