You can forget the defrag as that's mainly a windows issue.

I'd say you should check the cron man page to get familiar with it. Then you could make a script which would empty the /tmp folder for example every 24h or something.

What is the rest of your hardware and what do you want with it? On your CPU and RAM: it suffices for lightweight use, like a homeserver or DNS server. For commercial use it's underpowered.

You don't have to do that much. In Linux or any Unix the filesystem does not get cluttered with crap like in Windows. The only place you might have to clean up is /var/log, but usually a program called "logrotate" does it for you. Just make sure that your /var is big enough.

If your server is facing the internet then I strongly recommend that you read the "Securing Linux" manual. Also take a look at "Securing Debian" manual - it's not tied to Debian only. Otherwise it will probably be cracked sooner (a day) or later (years).

If the server is on the LAN only, just keep it running and update the software once in a while.

Firewalls = Hard crunchy shell, soft and meaty inside

don't neglect security on your systems just because they are behind a firewall.
