Seems like a DNS problem?

I installed Ubuntu Warty on my IBM THinkPad - the wireless network card configured ok and I can get web pages but trying to add repositories wouldn't work.
Told me it was trying to connect to 1.0.0.0 for security, universe, etc, and of course times out.
I then installed Hoary and everything is fine.
I'd like to understand why the Warty install went wrong when I had it installed on the laptop previously and two other machines with no problem.
I use DHCP to get my IP assigned by the ISP.
If DNS was the problem I would be unable to get any web page wouldn't I?

"If DNS was the problem I would be unable to get any web page wouldn't I?"

DNS converts an alphabetic web address to a four number web address. If DNS is the problem then you cannot access web sites by an alphabetic name but you can still reach them by typing in a four number web address.

What do you mean by "trying to add repositories"?

"Told me it was trying to connect to 1.0.0.0 for security, universe, etc, and of course times out."

Under what circumstances did it do this?

In synaptic, from the 'settings' drop down, I chose repositories and uncommented the universe repositories (bin and src) lines then hit reload .

This was on the initial reboot when it attempts to connect for security downloads, etc.
