screens blank when going to terminal

Thanks to widget, I now have dual monitors working on ATI card when I 'startx', while system boots up to the other, onboard crard, which is where I also end up when loading a tty. But, when I do, the GUI screens go black, and when I switch back to the GUI, the tty screen goes black.

Why?

I'd maybe like to refer to something on the tty after I leave it, and visa versa, I might want to read something on the GUI screens when at tty.

Is there something I can do about this? -- leave all screens un-blanked?

You are now way out of my depth. Never used more than one screen.

Hopefully someone here knows what to do.
