Post Screen Resolution - Knoppix

I installed knoppix (Auditor) to a HD install. Me thinking that my laptop can only go to 800x600 i chose that on the initial setup.
But i came to find out that it can actually go to 1024x768, but i don't seem to know how to get it to that res.

Here is what i tried:

at boot:
screen="1024x768" <-- i now have that res listed... but i'm still at 800x600

editing: (in 2 different places)
XF86Config
XF86Config-4
XF86Config-4.in

so they look like: (all color depths)
Code:
Section "Screen"
         Identifier "Screen0"
         Device "Card0"
         Monitor "Monitor0"
         DefaultColorDepth 16
         [...]
         SubSection "Display"
                 Depth 32
                 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
         EndSubSection
 EndSection

Also tried:
dpkg-reconfigure
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
Nothing has changed..... i know it can go to 1024x768, when i boot off the cd and choose it, it works fine....

Any help?

Try CTRL+ALT+ "+"|"-" (this means, holding down the CTRL and ALT keys while pressing + or - to increase the resolution or decrease it)
