Unhappy screen blanks out on boot

Hello---
After yesterday's daily debian install, i finally got it to boot from hd (partioning properly, i think)...now, on boot, after most of the process is done, right after it loads the gnome manager, the screen blanks out like its in suspend or something, and I can't get any response (even ctrl-alt-delete doesn't work)...any ideas?
Thanks

Hi,
Lines like the above are what I live for. Thank you. This may be a problem with an unsupported resolution. You might try ctrl-alt- + or - (plus or minus out by the number pad) and see if you get any kind of image. I do not know how many, or which resolutions you put in, but I think this might be an area to look at.
I believe the reason ctrl-alt-del will not work is because you are actually in x-windows.
Does ctrl-alt-F1 take you to the text command line? I do not know if this would show up as an error message in any of the logs, because I don't think the system would see this as an error.

Thanks, I should have been more patient to try that, but I bagged it and reinstalled... I was more careful about resolution, etc during install, its running the final stages now so I'll post back if it doesn't work.
The thing is, if it does work, I'll probably find some other way to push the limits of my smokin p1 75mhz machine, and have to reinstall again. I need something to fill those several hours of watching install scripts everyday...
