scim as standard im

hey,
im trying for long time now to make scim my default input method.

im tired of always typing in mousepad when i wanna type chinese (traditional, usually) in firefox or openoffice, and of always right-clicking and selecting scim as input method...

i tried tons of things. im-switch and stuff but i dont really get it...

can anyone tell me how to set that up on my machine? my machine is running debian testing (squeeze currently) with fluxbox. i do not use gdm or kdm, but login into a terminal and use "startx".

I think you can set the default input with 'im-switch -c'. Read /usr/share/doc/im-switch/README.Debian.gz for details.

hey,

first, thanks for your quick answer!

but actually, that does not change anything...

heres my im-switch -l output:

Code:

Your input method setup under en_US locale as below.
=======================================================
The configuration "/home/compul/.xinput.d/en_US" is defined as a link pointing to
scim
This private configuration supersedes the system wide default.
=======================================================
The system wide default is pointed by "/etc/alternatives/xinput-all_ALL" .
xinput-all_ALL - manual mode
 link currently points to scim
default - priority 10
default-xim - priority 0
none - priority 0
scim - priority 0
scim-immodule - priority 0
Current `best' version is default.
=======================================================
The available input method configuration files are:
default default-xim lo-gtk none scim scim-bridge scim-immodule th-gtk th-xim
=======================================================

i relogin and stuff but nothing happens, not even scim gets started. i just still can choose scim as im for every program that supports this (NOT iceweasel or openoffice e.g.).
maybe again what im looking for...

i wanna start x with
Code:

$ startx
then my fluxbox should start with scim started already, and when i press ctrl+space, chinese (whatever) is turned on, and when i press again its turned to german layout again...

maybe this is not possible... i dont know.... but thats the way i would like it to have :P

and.. of course... it should work in every possible application (especially openoffice and firefox).

can anybody help me? :)

actually, getting scim started on flux-startup is not the problem. the problem is the firefox/oo-thing and to make it default-im... :(
