Safest way to get newest fail2ban?

I've got fail2ban 0.8.13-1 installed. The included fail2ban-regex doesn't have some options that appear to show up in examples for this tool. I've added jessie backports but there does not appear to be a newer fail2ban package there.

I don't usually build from source as I like to stay somewhat within the confines of a distribution for ease in upgrades.

What is my safest debian compliant way to get fail2ban up to a later version?
