replace kernel install CD

Dear all,

I have to replace the kernel on the 3.1 install CD to support my Promise TX4300 SATA raid. I have patched the kernel, compiled and RAID adapter is working fine, I followed instruction that's on many pages on how to replace the kernel, and I booted the box with SATA Raid with the new install cd. it boots normally, but then Kernel Panic, unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(1,0) message appears.

Am I missing something from the kernel, or what could be a problem? Does any of you guys has a wroking howto on this issue? the one on debian.org seems to complicated.

Thanks for your help,
rewtenator

for a how-to on making a custom Debian CD.. take a look at this page: http://wiki.osuosl.org/display/LNX/M...+CD+for+Debian

Just fyi this is linked off the Debian on Dell servers page which is a custom netinstall iso that includes drivers for RAID controllers used in many popular servers.. http://wiki.osuosl.org/display/LNX/D...n+Dell+Servers They are doing the same thing you are just for different hardware

Thanks Far, I knew that. it does nnot contain drivers for TX4300 anyways.

I have solved the problem, iso9660 was compuled as a module

However it seems like the patched driver does not support raid arrays, it just recognizes disks attached to the controller, but not the logical drives.

Promise has drivers for 2.4, but installabel only as a module. I cannot load this modul while installing Debian.

Thanks,
Rew
