Remove KDE or GNOME completely

I had GNOME desktop managers both installed in my system.

Want to remove them:

apt-get remove gnome gnome-core gnome-utils.

Startx just to check....no way, gnome still booted. I don't want gnome to boot!

dpkg --purge gnome gnome-core gnome-utils...same result.

What else should I try?

TIA

If you mean the display manager where you log in then apt-get remove gdm.

Just open Synaptic, search for 'gnome' and remove any packages that you do not want on your system. Obviously, some of the gnome-libs may have to stay as part of your base install. This is to be expected.

apt-get remove gnome gnome-utils gnome-core gnome-desktop-data gnome-desktop-environment solved the problem.

Thanks !!!
