recommended email (mta) for stable?

Hi,

wich email (mta) deamon do you folks recommend for the stable version of debian?

not imposible hard to configure,
pop3 so it can be used with windows email clients,
webmail? webadmin?
it should like not be controled by users on the server machine, so i dont have to create users for all email users, its called virtual mail right, or something...
its secure...
virtual domains, diffrent domains same ip...
is it possible with exim?

yes i am a newbie learning linux along... and i sure sound dumb.. :)
advise kindly,

thanx...

Exim should be fine - personally I would use qmail though. You can use a database such as an ldap database to store user account information.

thanx, i was thinking about using qmail myself, so the next question is there a place with qmail as deb package? or i have to download the source and compile?

thanx..

I have only ever seen source packages - I think it is something to do with licensing. The install isn't too difficult if you follow the readme.

Use postfix, it's just as good as qmail without the painful install process and without the "having the software written by an insane man on my machine" side effect. Postfix can only do SMTP, so you'll have to set up a POP3 and webmail server. I recommend Squirrelmail for the webmail server, but I have no need for POP3 so I don't have a good recommendation for what to use to serve that up.
