rat not working with etch

I'm running etch with a 2.6.11-1-686 kernel on a Pentium 4 with onboard sound, and have installed the rat package but when I try to connect to a multicast audio session I just get:

Setting volume: Invalid argument
Getting volume: Invalid argument
rat-media: auddev.c:957: audio_get_ogain: Assertion `volume <= 100' failed.

without the GUI even appearing. I'm using KDE as my desktop, and otherwise sound works well (mp3's, streaming audio, etc.) and have duplex sound enabled via the control centre.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Can anyone recommend a fix?

OK, problem solved. However, I had to install Debian's alsa package and remember to run alsaconf, none of which is hinted at when the rat package is installed. Maybe a bit of an oversight by the package maintainers?

No, since ALSA isnt the only option that can be used. It's up to you to configure your soundsystem.
