glx module is the Xwindows port/version of OpenGL and agpgart is a kernel driver that allows AGP
in Linux that works with graphics card drivers

you might want to checkout

utah-glx.sourceforge.net

What error logs should i be posting ? you mean the out put of dmesg? i'm as green at debian and linux in general as our newly seeded lawn

anyway i changed the driver from "fglrx" to "vesa" so far so good
I also changed the resolution part in it as i rechecked moniter specs and says maximum suppoerted resolution is 1024X768.. i was running at 1280X9xx someting
i dunno if this would cause anything but maybe... so far so good anyway.

again i have no idea what logs may be of use.

read the XFree86 man page like this 'man XFree86' or 'man Xorg'
to understand your xserver

-_-_-_-_------then post these log files so that I can look at them-----_-_-_-_-

useful log files are in '/var/log'. Some programs choose to put their log
files whereever they want to and some allow you to configure where you
want them to put the log file

the ones that I'm interested in are:
'/var/log/messages'
'/var/log/syslog'
'/var/log/XFree86.0.log' #this is expected to give good debug info

copy and paste those files to here on this thread

and post the output from 'scanpci -vv' or 'lspci -vv'. I would prefer 'lspci -vv'

I hope that your reading those man pages, 'man XFree86' or 'man Xorg'

if your not reading those man pages, then your on your own.

I'm curious as to whether or not these crashes happen across desktop environments. Are you running Gnome, KDE, Xfce, or something else? Do the freezes occur in all of them or just one?

currently using

debian 3.1. testing, 2.6.8-2-i686
icewm / and fluxbox (seeing which i like better... damn tough decision )
not a big fan of gnome or kde, i like to customize myself... even though a little blindy sometime
ati drivers with 3d acceleration working

when it does freeze it seems to be whatever wm is running either flux or ice

Okay, that's fine. You're on the right track.
Just checking to make sure the problem wasn't with a specific wm.

i would like to but each log is approx 45000+ characters, it wont let me post the whole thing so i will paste last half ... i dont see a way to attach them
