Procedure to update / upgrade Debian
Hello there,
What would be correct procedure to update / upgrade Debian testing version 4.1.1-13
with Kernel 2.6.16-2-486. I think this version is classified as Sarge. What I have installed is not full version, rather base version, there is not GUI, Internet connection is working. I need to update / upgrade through Internet, not from CD.
I have spent lot of time on Googling. Of course there is a lot of available information, as a well as conflicting, but not any clear procedural way of doing.
Further, when I use
# apt-get [file]
Very often I am responded with:
Recommended packages:
[file1] [file2]
The following packages will be upgraded:
apt apt-listchanges apt-utils
5 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 458 not upgraded.
Need to get 1998kB of archives.
After unpacking 69.6kB of additional disk space will be used.
WARNING: The following packages cannot be authenticated!
bsdutils apt apt-utils apt-listchanges chkrootkit
Install these packages without verification [y/N]?
I never continued with Y. Would I have?
What would be saved and right way to do updates / upgrades and where to go to get them.
Any direction, please?
Thank you much,
Tom
