Question Problems with Totem Video Player

Aloha!

I decided to give linux a chance as a desktop replacement for XP on my Notebook. After a view years with Slackware I gave debian etch a try. I'm very new to any X-Window systems and desktop environments and I had to learn to configure many new features.

Anyway, my primary problem at the moment is the standard video player for gnome (2.14.3), Totem.
Any time I want to start this applikation it opens the GUI for 1-2 seconds but the it quits itself immediately without any error messages. The same happens when I insert a DVD.

Are there any suggestions how I can solve this problem?

Regards
Orangutanklaus

Try to start it from the console - it should report something.
