Problems with screen resolution, auto-mounting hda1, unable to save file

Am new to Linux and Debian, I need help:
1. KDE runs at 800x600 resolution, how can I change to 1024x768x24?
2.I hv to type manually on the terminal to mount my 2nd hd (FAT32 partition), how can I AUTO mount whenever I start the system?
3. If I change some files that belong to "root", I cannot save them, how can I login as root at start up?

For 1st question--if u know ur monitor HoriZ and Vert refresh capability(in manual or back of monitor or google)and what video card(lspci as root), u can edit /etc/X11/xf86Config-4(for Sarge). See post-install config at top of this forum. U can do root edits from terminal with su then pw then use nano, gedit or vim as editors--e.g.nano /etc/fstab or vim /etc/inittab then save changes in menu(gedit) or bottom of file(nano). Nano is simpler. apt-get install nano if not installed.
CTL+Alt+F1 will get u out of desktop> u can log in as root and edit from there too. Check out man automount and man fstab. Others may be able to help further with ur 2nd HD mounting at boot. Enjoy Debian.
