Unhappy problem opening large 2colour tiff in Debian testing amd64

os: latest Debian testing amd64

every single gfx software (GIMP, geeqie..) fails to open large black&white tiff image (14000x10000x2). it complains, gives an error and produces garbage.
same tiff works with no problems in WindowsXP software. also I didn't have such problems on old 32bit Debian stable.

tifs are compressed with ccit algorithm

what to do?

ps. LZW compressed tiff seems to work fine.

I've handled big tiffs but 14000x10000 seems insane

Every package will use libtiff. Investigate libtiff and ccit compression. That's where I'd start. You might have to recompile it.

oh, ok I'll just wait for bugfix then. thanks.

the resolution seems to be A0 in 300dpi. its only two colours so it should be about 140Mbit raw. however, it takes much more than that in gimp for some reason.
