printing mozilla->a4??

hi

i am in the usa, and so i would like to print on us letter sized paper. when i tell mozilla to print to a ps file, then

1) gv cannot view it and produces a large pink window with no error message
2) when i print the ps file, the printer asks me to load a4 paper

everything is pretty much stock debian-sid, no configurations done except when the print-popup comes up on mozilla, i selected us-letter rather than a4.

how can i make us-letter the default for all apps, and no more a4?
how come the postscript output is not viewable by gv?

thanks a lot

Check your /etc/papersize and change it to letter if it is a4.
