Just a couple of thoughts...
No doubt you have already done this, but have you enabled "Print Services for Unix" on the XP box (Windows 5.1)? (It is disabled by default.) Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs/Add-Remove Windows Components/Other Network File and Print Services/Print Services for Unix Once this is done, you should be able to connect to the printer share on the XP box from Linux via Samba/Cups. The other thought is did you restart CUPS after you installed the ppd file? |
The manual below helped me to solve problem I had, and help all of you.
Thank you. http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/doc...d-Printing.pdf |
i will post in 4 hours what i have done meanwhile i have to make 4 more posts

on my laptop i have xp home edition and i didn't instaled that because i don't need it because i use just cups for printer sharing, the only thing i instaled on laptop is the windows drivers for the printer to print with my network printer i use an link something like this: "http://Ip of printing server:631/printers/printername" where:- Ip of printing server is the ip of the server - 631 ---> the port used by cups to broadcast and receve commands -printername is the name of the instaled printer by the way on server i have : debian sarge, cups and samba (not configurated)instaled with aptitude, and an Samsung ML-1610 laser printer instaled with the ppd file from samsung site using cups administration web interface using that link and drivers instaled on the boxes who want to print i can print from my whole network (network with 7 C clases) the acces to printer is configurated in cups conf file and instaled firewall |
Lexmark E232 Network printer
I had a dickens of a time getting my lexmark e 232 printer to print from a windows 2000 client laptop. I kept trying to install printer on laptop, it saw it but could not print to it and showed errors when I clicked on properites. While installing a new video card on my main windows 2000 machine it crashed so I had to run the setup disk. I got the video cards driver from driverguide.com. I also had to reinstall the printer. I got the printer driver from driverguide.com also. Now I can print from my laptop. The driver for lexmark e 232 was called Lexmark_AAL_Win2K_PCL_sys_en.exe its just a little over 1 meg.(1.060 kb)
