Printer stopped working

I have had my HP Deskjet 932C inkjet printer working on my Debian machine for quite a while now. I have been trying to install, with no luck , my Netgear WG311T wifi card, so I installed the kernel headers and sources. Afterwards, my printer stopped printing from Open Office or Firefox. I deleted the printer and reinstalled, but no luck. If I go to http://localhost:631 to manage the printer, I can print a test page. Also, when I go to print from Firefox, the correct printer shows up in the print dialog box, and acts like it is sending the print job to the printer, but the printer just sits there? Is it common to loose a printer when installing the kernel sources or headers? What do I need to check to get my printing back? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Does sound a bit weird, I had similar problems with my printer, could print a test page but nothing else. It turned out I was using the wrong driver even though cups listed my printer, I needed to select a different one (I have an Epson cx5200, needed to use the C82 driver). I would check you have the right driver again (hpijs driver), and not just selecting the printer model with cups, but most of the deskjets use the same one anyways I think, so that probably isn't it.

I've never heard of things breaking after installing kernel headers, but I'm not really sure.

Thanks for the link. I am currently using the HPLIP drivers. I think I'll try the HPIJS and see what happens.

Hi.

You're right. HPLIP drivers just won't work properly or even if they do, it may not be reliable.

I use the HP PSC 1315 and I must say that the hpijs and the hpoj drivers work very well for printing and scanning respectively. I suggest you give that a try.

Also make sure your printer URI is like this for a USB printer/
Code:
usb:/dev/usb/lp0
This is very important.

You might want to check out this thread, where I've posted important notes on how to configure the printing:

Thanks for the help. I installed hpijs drivers and cupsys-bsd, and now I am printing from all applications.

Happy Happy Debian User. Now on to the wifi card!
