pppd balks!
I`m trying to set up ppp on Sarge. I answered
all the questions. When I run pppd I get this message: "The remote system is required to authenticate itself but I couldn`t find any suitable secret (password) for it to use to do it". There was no place in the setup for this password and my ISP did not provide such an item. What must I do to make ppp happy? |
i am assuming you want dial up and not pppOe?
if dial up...you create your /etc/ chap or pap password file by using KDEś kppp program see this if it thats want you want http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-HOWTO...TO.html#AEN238 or search for kppp this LQ site |
According to the config file for ppp no
"auth" is required. |
Your isp gave u a username/password so that he can make accounting and charge you for the time , right?
You have to use either PAP or CHAP to authenticate. Try with one of the two and in the logs you will see something telling you that you need another authentication mechanism if pap is not sufficient. |
for ppp0 conneciton i always use "pon" it's too simple
you first run "pppconfig" as su or root and configure the ppp Than you can dial simple using "pon" and stop by "poff" |
Well...I deleted old config files and ran pppconfig
choosing "provider" instead of my ISP name. Now I can start with pon. Thanks, lavluda and the rest for your help...Alan. |
