please please hlp

I made a stupid mistake. I was at this point in config process of Debian, and I pressed enter:
hxxp://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/slideshow.php?release=135&slide=34

so I guess I did not download any software. It takes me to a dos-like login page

How do I either back up to the old point, or the likely solution...manually install the components on the page from the slideshow... ???

From the command prompt type "su" (without quotes) and give the root user's password. Then type "base-config" (without quotes).

Alternatively, you can type "su" to become root and then type "apt-setup" to configure Debian's package management tool, APT.

Now, supposing that you have a working network connection and you have configured APT, you can type (as root) either "tasksel" or "aptitude". tasksel is a simpler task selection utility while aptitude will give you more detailed choices on the packages you can install.

thanks. That worked, well kind of. I got back to the place I left off, but when all was "done" it took me back to the "dos-like page only this time it was debian:~# or something, the only change I think was the # symbol. How do Iload the desktop program? or what is the next step?

thanks...

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
