Pivot_root: No such file or directory

I have tryed to install the new 2.6.8 kernel on my Dell 9300 Laptop, but when i boot it up i get the error:

Pivot_root: No such file or directory
/sbin/init:432:cannot open dev/console: No such file
Kernel panic..bla bla bla

When i try to change the pivot_root with the commando:
Pivot_root /mnt/new_root /mnt/old_root
I get the error: "Pivot_root: Device or resource busy".

I have tryed to recompile my initrd for the new kernel, but with no luck. Nothing i do does the trick.
Any ideers to what is wrong?

Christian

I don't know the answer myself but I know that if you google on that error a lot of sites turn up with possible solutions.

Can you at least specify what you've done already for other so they know what to not suggest?
