patches ok for 2.6.19.* but weird at 2.6.20.* (nube question)

Hi All,

I'm new to patching (just learned and succeeded at kernel install). I'm running kernel 2.6.19.1 and was able to apply the incremental patches (such as patch-2.6.19.2-3 and so on). I got all the way to the last incremental patch in 2.6.19 (which is patch-2.6.19.6-7) and then was faced with moving to 2.6.20.1. I tried the patch-2.6.20.1 patch but got several "hunk failed" errors. I'm guessing its specifically about moving from 2.6.19 to 2.6.20

Should I be using a different patch?

Thanks,

ab

It seems to me that if you want to patch a 2.6.20 kernel, you have to start by having the 2.6.20 source code installed in the first place. I don't believe that patches can actually update a complete version number by themselves.

Excellent point! Reason and logic become a blur after a while. Thanks for the response, I'll install the base.

Have a look at this similar thread. The doco is in your source tree.
