packages dependencies.

Hi all,

Please help me with my few questions below, I really need help as i'm new to debian.

1) how do i read a .deb files ...I need to see the code.

2) how do I change a package dependency...(if possible)

Use 'ar -x package.deb' to extract the data and control tarballs. The dependency information is in the control tarball. I haven't changed this myself, but that should get you started.

I have no experience modifying .deb packages, but I've never even heard of changing dependencies, unless perhaps you are the author of the package and you modify the source code to eliminate a dependency. The dependencies are there for a reason, so if your plan is to remove a dependency in order to force an install, there is probably a better way.
