nvidia module-assistant not working

module assistant does not work installing nvidia anymore

I decided to reinstall debian sarge from scratch again, I had nvidia working with kernel 2.6.8-2, but now it doesn't

so I do an apt-get install kernel-image-2.6-686 kernel-headers-2.6-686

which gives me version 2.6.8-2

reboot and do an
apt-get install module-assistant nvidia-kernel-common

module-assistant auto-install nvidia

which gives an error:

Build of the package nvidia-kernel-source failed! How do │
│ you wish to proceed? │
│ │
│ VIEW Examine the build log file │
│ CONTINUE Skip and continue with the next operation │
│ STOP Stop processing the build commands

except view goes to quickly for me to see anything, so I click continue and get the message

Package nvidia-kernel-source was not built successfully, see #
│ /var/cache/modass/nvidia-kernel-source*buildlog* for details! ▒

but there are no files in /var/cache/modass

what happened?

further study has gotten me this, I guess I can't find nvidia-kernel-source for some reason??

debian:/home/nurdin# module-assistant auto-install nvidia
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Package nvidia-kernel-source is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package nvidia-kernel-source has no installation candidate

heres my /et/apt/sources.list file

debian:/home/nurdin# more /etc/apt/sources.list
#deb file:///cdrom/ sarge main

deb testing main contrib non-free
deb-src testing main contrib non-free

deb testing/updates main contrib

okay, from what I understand nvidia-sources was removed from testing and is only in unstable now so I had to add lines to my /etc/apt/sources.list involving unstable repositories
