nvidia all video has strange hue around certain elements
Hi guys first post here in the Debian forum. Been using slackware for my workstation for learning purposes and stability, and decided to give something a little more modern a try.
First impressions I really like Debian, been running a server with it for a while and just last week switched to it on my main workstation.
I have only had one problem with video. I have a Geforce 210 with 1gb of ram and the proprietary Nvidia drivers installed from a repo. Thing is, in all video whether flash in my browser or movies in vlc, mpv, and mplayer, I have these weird overlays that scan over the video, especially in scenes where the camera zooms in, long distance shots seem unaffected.
Also, almost every video I start whether flash or movie file, I get a flash of a green bar at the bottom of the screen very quickly and barley noticeable. Now I know thats a rough description so I attached a screen shot, the affected area is circled in red.
Hoping someone can help me out.
EDIT: Since nobody answered yet another thing I left out is I'm in gnome latest version.
first of all, you are talking about video playback.
might be related to your nvidia card, might not.
the screenshot - is that full screen? what is your screen's native resolution? surely more than 1024x768?
that jpg is so compressed, i can hardly make out what upu're talking about.
it would be better if you make a screenshot to .png format and upload it to a service that doesn't resize the image (e.g. postimg.org).
Thank you for your reply. Yes actually my resolution is 1024x768 and that was a full screen screen shot. It was not resized. Here is the output you requested:
Also I have attached a png of a similar image that may be more enlightening. Notice the quality of the screen shot especially around Will Ferrell's head and the greenish yellow line leading down his shoulder and arm. The general quality seems terrible. The film is in 720p and looks great in Mac.
I had the proprietary drivers installed in Slackware 14.1 and Mac OS 10.10.5(Nvidia Web Drivers) on this system, with this card and did not have this problem.
the quality of the shot is ok to my eyes, but you are definitely using the wrong resolution.
some more info about your hardware (i couldn't quite decide from your signature) - monitor, laptop screen...
output of "xrandr" (and please, this time use code tags).
you can set your screen to native (=max) resolution with xrandr.
I'm using an old 15" flatscreen and a Geforce 210. My max resolution is 1024x768, also I switched drivers to Nouveau and its still doing the same thing.
Code:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192
DVI-I-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
VGA-1 connected primary 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 30mm x 22mm
1024x768 75.08* 75.03 70.07 60.00
800x600 72.19 75.00 60.32
640x480 75.00 72.81 60.00
720x400 70.08
EDIT: Thanks for your reply, Just noticed its happening on all images also that I view on Google images. I just rebooted into my hackintosh and its definitely the OS. I have never seen this before in Slackware or MacOS?
ondoho thanks for your help and I apologize...... It was my vga cable! LMAO! Sorry brother. I just twisted it and it works now. In my defense my 32" flatscreen's main board just went and I'm waiting for a replacement board I ordered off EBAY. Thats why I have this crappy monitor and low res... Thanks again, and sorry for my ignorance. Marking Solved.
