Question non-free firmware installation

I have a DLink DWA-131 USB Wireless adapter and the non-free firmware driver "rtl8192afw.bin" associated with the hardware--identified by the lsusb command, namely Realtek RTL8192SU. Where do I put the driver and what scripts or file modifications do I need to get my Debian 7.4 system configured for wireless operation? The iwconfig command shows no wireless extensions.

Hi,

install the firmware-realtek package that should do it.

https://packages.debian.org/wheezy/firmware-realtek

Cheers,

Evo2.

I use this Wifi dongle: Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8191SU 802.11n WLAN Adapter
I have these firmware packages installed: firmware-linux-free, firmware-linux-nonfree, firmware-realtek.
My dongle shows up like this (using lshw):
Quote:
18900- *-network
18912- description: Wireless interface
18951- physical id: 3
18973- bus info: usb@3:2.4
19000- logical name: wlan1
19027- serial: 00:0b:81:ab:19:0a
19060: capabilities: ethernet physical wireless
19108: configuration: broadcast=yes driver=r8712u ip=192.168.1.67 multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11bgn
As you can see it uses the r8712u driver.

Thumbs up non-free firmware installation

I followed the advice of evo2, namely downloading and installing the firmware-realtek deb package. The wlan is now up and running. His help was much appreciated. Also, thanks to jdkaye and k3lt01 for their responses.
