I have been having troubles to no end installing Debian on my system.
I've recently purchased a WD800JD SATA hd and the I/OFlex SATA Controller.

First I was trying to install Woody for ~3-4 days before I received both pieces of hardware and have been trying to install it for many hours today. I asked a variety of questions in the Debian IRC channel and a user suggested I install Sarge with hopes of it supporting the SATA drive. Woody only detects hda1 and no scsi drive.

Therefore, I've been trying to install Sarge via Netinst for numerous hours and have essentially gotten nowhere. When attempting to install Sarge with Netinst, I load files from ' cd-drivers.img' in which it afterwards attempts to mount the Debian cd. I've recently had luck with the Sarge cd and booting it directly after POST. The other cd's I've attempted to boot directly without the use of boot-disks has failed at the very beginning. However, seeing as I've made some headware, what am I required to do after this point? DPMS, DRDOS, /mlx?

The latest cd I've created (w/ Nero Express) is bootable and the ISO has been expanded and burned.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated. I really have my hopes up for Debian and would rather not install a different distro.

I absolutely CANNOT resolve this and it is driving me bonkers. Nothing works. Should I try burning the actual Sarge images instead of 'netinst'?

Any ideas at all are much appreciated.

If I understand your problem correctly, you're having trouble because of multiple bad cd's being burnt. I've used some of the unofficial netinst CD's for sid and sarge, and haven't had this problem. Could your CD burner (or blank CD's) just be bad or dirty? Could you try having a friend burn you one from a different sort of blank CD-R, and see what that results in?

If you're getting partially bad burns, I'd suspect burning the larger CD's will cause even more problems for you, and I think you should stick with netinst (unless maybe it's a bad download? Try another mirror's CD?). Or am I misunderstanding the problem?

By the way, I'd encourage you to, after booting from the CD, hit F1 or F2 or whatever, go through the menus, and choose to boot off of kernel 2.6.x. I believe they have much better SATA support, and the odds of your controller being supported are best that way (as opposed to 2.4.x).

I have successfully installed Debian Sarge today. I resolved this problem I was having with the burnt cd's a couple of days ago. The problem was that I was burning a data cd instead of an image cd.
