First, Wheezy is too old. You should upgrade to Jessie, which is the stable branch.

Second, you should give more details about your card, such as brand, model and which driver you're using (in case you have installed any driver for it). If it is a pci card, you can post the output of lspci -k and if it is a USB card, you should post the output of lsusb.

If you have access to the network somehow (ethernet, etc.), you should upgrade first, since sometimes upgrades mess with drivers and settings, and you could end up installing and setting up your card twice.

There was a very easy solution to the whole problem. I had this computer plugged directly into my modem and I clicked on that connection and my wireless connections came up.

Thanks for the help.

fresh install. no wireless. I have a realtek wireless card and I've got my driver installed. I've tried everything I can find but no luck. there's supposed to be a gui installer and I;ve tried the package but jessie can't find it. I'm getting desperate at this point.

Help greatly appreciated!!!

let me know what is your wifi card... I can give you a suited kernel vmlinuz + initrd.img to handle your wifi card.
