no swap on self-compiled 2.6.3 kernel

Hello everybody,

I've finally got my kernel bootable. Thanks especially to Stephen Cormier and the rest who helped me (hard to trace their names). I think I had some modules and kernel-options wrong. After booting I had some minor problems (getting mouse and sound work) which I could quite easily solve. But now again found a problem I don't know how to solve:

My new kernel doesn't appear to use swap. I've just recompiled a kernel again (had made some minor changes) but I noticed my memory was full and swap completely and absolutely empty. Normally while compiling the process consumes 20 MB swap or so.

I've got 250 MB physical RAM and 140 MB swap. After a fresh boot I'm using 125 MB memory. Besides the compiling I had some small other applications running (like yahoo messenger, xmms).

Should I have activated "device drivers / Memory Technology Devices / ..."? I have support for paging anonymous memory compiled into my kernel. Couldn't find anything else that has to do with swapping.

Hope anyone knows/understands. Can't find any problem like it on the www.

Corien
