No graphics acceleration with etch on inspiron 1100

I've just installed etch on my Dell inspiron 1100. Everything is running fine except that tuxracer is slow as a dog. No 3d acceleration. It's got an intel video card that runs on the i810 driver, 16M video ram. My xorg.conf file is as follows:

# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Get the latest BIOS level (A20 ???), else the memory reseved for the video is significantly less than that.

Well, the thing is, this xorg.conf setup works with other distros, it even works with sarge (where it's XFConfig-4) and I get 3d acceleration with them. I've already upgraded the bios on this machine.

I've never needed 3d, so the BIOS update was sufficient for me.
Maybe they are loading 915resolution (or 855resolution) - I used it successfully on another Dell. Search will find it.

How would I do that? Is that a kernel module that I would load?
