no apt-get connection through dlink dsl g664t

hi there,
i've got a little tiny problem:
my system configuration is a pentium 4 ht 3ghz, 1024mb ram, ati radeon 9800 ...

the problem is: my internet connection via http and ftp works fine, but if i start apt get for updating the debian testing i get no connection to the usual debian servers.

i believe its a problem of my damn d-link dsl g664t wlan router. it doesent matter to try it via wlan or cable, the connection always times out.

funny thing is: my pal i am living in a flat with has a debian system running (okay, a bit longer than me...) which updates normal via apt-get. our running server with a debian system as fresh as mine has the same problem.

i kicked the old debian installation in the belief that the first testing cd is buggy, which i used for installing the debian. but neither the latest netinst nor the latest testing cd 1 changed anything about the problem with installing or updating via apt-get...

can anyone help me? i tried the usual forums already, but i wasnt able to find something about my problem...

since i kicked debian, i have no linux anymore, cause i can't download the missing packages of the system.... arrrghh... no more win...

i am not a newbie, but far away from pro, so i can't help myself really. my pal is more a pro, he didnt knew an answer as well....

thx, nils

p.s. i've found some stuff like the firmware of the router has a bug, which means by multiple dns questions (uhh... damn translation) the router refuses e.g. apt-get to connect... maybe that helps anyone helping me.. =)

If your http and ftp connections are working normally then either there is a problem with the remote server or your sources.list. Which server are you accessing? I am having problems with debian uk server at present and switched to the us server and all is normal.

i usually use the german ones.... i don't think it's the remote server, i already tried the sources.list of my pal, not working either... i try the us ones though...

edit: i also tried to use the static option in the /etc/network/interfaces file, with address, gateway, network .... no change....

i am trying right now, what windows with vmware does about the little problem...

thx

I used to have similat problem with connection with by B-FOCuS router: several sites IP were not resolved.
I've added my providers DNS servers manually:

Try following - go (in Gnome) "Apllications->System Tools->Netwoking"
In DNS tab add your providers IP's.
Or just manually edit /etc/resolv.conf
and add lines to it nameserver xx.yy.zz.tt with your proveders DNSs

Then try - if it resolves sites correctly then you'll need to install resolvconf package that will prevent from servers you added being removed from the list and configure it.

But first try to add DNS IPs and thest if it helps

yeeehaaa... thx to you guys...
the provider-dns thingy in resolv.conf worked, debian is loading its components now...

i tried that one before, but i must have had a mistake or stuff, cause it didnt work these days.... hmmm....

again, thx for quick help!

bye Nils
