Newbie: session manager: Authentication Rejected

If I execute gedit or other programs from a shell, the program works fine but I see:

GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed
in the shell. What does this mean?

I see those messages too, but as the app's work fine I suggest not to take much notice of it. I certainly don't
