Angry Newbie Goof!!

Hi guys. I installed Debian 3.1 on the second HD of my main computer and it loaded Grub as the boot loader. Well, the HD with Debian died a horrible death complete with sickening crunching noise and now my computer freezes when Grub can't find Linux. How do I get rid of Grub?

Thanks!

tchumley; two ways 1st: replace grub with lilo from rpm package from 3rd set of CDs( providing u have complete set) or from within setup disk.
2nd: Restore or Rescue mode.
last resort reinstall but use lilo.

Why is it a goof? Did you have any idea the HDD was on it's last legs?

What's on the surviving HDD? If it's something like Win98/ME, make sure you have a boot floppy (or CD and tell it to load up the command prompt), load from that and perform "fdisk /mbr". WinXP, I think the rescue option from the boot CD will work. As for other Linux distros... SUSE, I know, comes with an option to boot into an existing Linux OS. Not sure about other distros, alas.

Glad to help!

Going to get another HDD to put Debian on? And any idea why the other hard drive had died?

Yes I am and I think it is just a case of "Buy a HD off ebay and take your chances" biting me in the *ss!
