New Debian 6.0 Installation - Home Folder Contains Only "Desktop"

Hello,

I just installed Debian 6.04. Upon booting into the system, the only folder showing in my home folder is Desktop. No Music, no Videos, no Documents, etc.

I take it this is not normal. What happened?

Thanks,

Lawrence

Not sure why this exactly happened, but you can safely create these directories.
Code:
cd ~; mkdir Music Videos Documents Downloads Public
Cheers,

1) Debian is not windows
2) Install the various xdg packages

xdg-user-dirs - tool to manage well known user directories
xdg-user-dirs-gtk - tool to manage well known user directories (Gtk extension)
xdg-utils - desktop integration utilities from freedesktop.org
extra-xdg-menus - Extra menu categories for applications under GNOME and KDE

Quote:
xdg-user-dirs is a tool to help manage "well known" user directories
like the desktop folder and the music folder. It also handles
localization (i.e. translation) of the filenames.
.
The way it works is that xdg-user-dirs-update is run very early in the
login phase. This program reads a configuration file, and a set of
default directories. It then creates localized versions of these
directories in the users home directory and sets up a config file in
$(XDG_CONFIG_HOME)/user-dirs.dirs (XDG_CONFIG_HOME defaults to
~/.config) that applications can read to find these directories.
