neverwinter nights GOG Diamond works in wine/pol in slackware but not Debian

I searched the interwebs for answer and see similar stuff and usually come to dead end looking for answer.

I can get wine/playonlinux to work with with neverwinter nights gog diamond version in slackware flawlessly

I get black screen during movies though have am getting audio and eventually come to game menu which shows up. works flawlessly with slackware 15 amd64/intel 64bit hardware

getting same results on several systems. work with slackware 15 but not Debian on multiple systems. all 64bit with multi lib 32bit support.

Debian bullseye, bookworm, trixie. Videos and game play is affected. Game play shows no floor and movies.

doesnt seem to be problem with sdl or mpeg players though bink is not installed on either systems. cant figure out why it works flawlessly with slackware 15 and runs into consistent issues across debian version and desktop/laptop. not a nvidia or amd issue trying both.

this is not the newer gog ehanced edition but gog diamond with sotu and hotu/kingmaker and couple other modules.

one thing with slackware 15 is I have to use virtual desktop with resolution desired outside of that no issues. dont need to use virtual desktop on debian.

Wine will be unpredictable. You could try using the exact same version of wine used in Slackware and hope for the best.

Have you tried messing with all of the graphics settings in game? Decrease everything then re-enable one at a time? Sorry I can't be much more help, it's an old game and my memory is foggy.

I had next to no issues running the native Linux port of the game, but haven't run it for years now. The problems with that as I recall were getting it installed and configured in the first place. I used to disable all the movies - not worth all the trouble.

This person wrote a guide to getting the Linux port working: https://gist.github.com/ubervison/1f...fca0bedaf5ad2d

I dont think wine is a issue.

Debian has 8.0 installed slackware 15 uses wine 8.0.1

The game intro movies are black but audio plays. Its before I get to any graphics settings for game for movie intro. tried playing around resolution for wine using virtual desktop. Then when playing in debian there is no floor in game play addition to no movies.

Slackware is fine but prefer to use debian but debian has this one issue.

Just decided to go back to Slackware. Which has been refreshing. Easier to setup and get working.
